How the ideas are put together
The guides draw on widely used decorating rules of thumb, such as the 60-30-10 colour split, the rule of odds and layered lighting, explained in plain English. Measurements are starting points that suit most rooms, not fixed rules. Where safety matters, such as plants and pets, electrics or old paint, we point you to the people and sources who can give a definite answer.
